Arnaldsstaðir

PRAN-ICR-17 Iceland Afforestation & Reforestation

Project Description

Arnaldsstaðir is a large-scale afforestation and carbon removal initiative located in Fljótsdalur, Eastern Iceland, developed by Yggdrasill Carbon ehf. The project transforms abandoned agricultural grasslands into climate-resilient forests capable of delivering long-term carbon sequestration while restoring ecological integrity.

Approximately 68,000 native and climate-adapted trees, including spruce, pine, and aspen, were planted to establish a productive forest ecosystem. Beyond carbon removal, the project contributes to biodiversity recovery, soil restoration, landscape resilience, and sustainable rural development. The site is also culturally significant, reflecting Icelandic folklore associated with the Arnaldsstaðir landscape.
